Short answer: aluminum windows can be engineered for typhoon-exposed projects, but no window should be called “typhoon-proof” based on frame material alone. Wind pressure, wind-driven rain, opening size, building height, location, frame reinforcement, glass, hardware, drainage, anchoring, perimeter waterproofing, and installation quality must be evaluated as one assembly.

For architects and engineers, the key question is whether the proposed window system and glass are appropriate for the project’s design pressures and required air, water, and structural performance—not whether the brochure uses the word “heavy-duty.” For owners, good performance means the panels close securely, water is directed back outside, and maintenance remains practical. For contractors, correct rough openings, anchors, sill support, sealant joints, flashing, and protected drainage paths are critical.

Fixed windows generally have fewer air- and water-leakage paths than operable windows, but each room still needs the right balance of ventilation, access, safety, and emergency requirements. Large sliding or folding panels may require different profiles, glass, reinforcement, and hardware from smaller residential openings.

Ask suppliers to state the proposed system, glass build-up, hardware, anchoring concept, drainage details, and any available test information for the actual configuration.
